Training in the Regiment

Cover ImageAs with other operational units in the 2 Eastern Command (later renamed 2 Eastern Brigade), the 2nd Field Artillery Regiment was often directed to conduct recruit training for new entrants into the Defence Forces.  More often than not, after completing their recruit training in the ‘Regiment’ most young soldiers went onto  complete their 3 Star courses within the same unit.  Following on from promotion, it was also necessary for the newly promoted  ‘3 Star Privates’ to succesfully complete their Artillery Gunnery Course.  For those who stayed within the ranks of the Regiment, it meant that they would have been in training for almost 36 weeks.  While not everyone who underwent Recruit Training with the Regiment stayed within its ranks, all who did agree that the experience was one that left an indelible impression on them throughout their military careers.
