In Memoriam

As with other units of the Defence Forces, many members of 2 Field Artillery Regiment have gone on to their eternal rest.  This page is dedicated to their memory.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

First time to visit the Web Site, well done to everybody involved, looking at the roll of Honour some good friends and comrades sadly missed RIP, great to see this web site it will keep the memory of the real 2 Fd Arty Regt alive in the hearts of all who have served and had each others backs, through the good times and the Bad times.

    We very much appreciate the laying of the wreath on 2nd July at the monument in Tramore for our son Niall Byrne and his colleagues who perished in the Air Corps tragedy in 1999. Niall was so proud of The Regiment, which has never forgotten him. Vincent and Anna Byrne.

  14. Just a word of thanks to the regiment and especially major mick dillon for the terrific send off you gave my dad (Paddy OBrien rsm retired ) recently . I really was extremely proud of him and proud of his comrades who looked after him with such respect and dignity .

  15. Vincent & David – It is our privilege and pleasure to remember all who served within the ranks of the 2 Field Artillery Regiment. Every member of the unit throughout the years left their own mark on it, and on the people they served with. We will always remember them.

    Our thanks again to the Regiment for the laying of the wreath at the Memorial in Tramore on 2nd July for our son Niall and crew of rescue 111 who lost their lives returning from a successful rescue mission on 2nd July 1999. ” That others may live “.
